The great bass guitarist Sir Bryn Terfel has returned to society for the first time since 2012 and plays the cursed captain, who is threatened with extinction forever. Valery Gergiev conducts a new production by Franois Girard, whose visionary set Parsifal’s latest Met standard for Wagner’s productions in 2013. Thanks to the extensive sets by John Macfarlan, the new production of the Girards Met stage is transformed into a rich, layered board that is reminiscent of a huge oil painting. The talented German soprano Anja Kampe is dedicated to Senta on her Met debut, whose selfless love the Dutchman is looking for, with bassist Franz-Josef Selig as her father Daland and tenor Sergei Skorokhod as her abandoned former lover Erik.

Soprano Anna Netrebko, who the New York Times described as spectacular when she made her Tosca debut in 2018, is returning as an explosive diva Puccinis due to high demand. Tenori Najmiddin Mavlyanov and Brian Jagde take turns as idealistic painters Cavaradossi, and baritones George Gagnidze and Michael Volle complete the opera’s deadly love triangle as a sinister scarpia. Bertrand de Billy heads the breathtaking production of Sir David McVicars.
